The purpose of 172 Below is to provide a space for Emerson students to get concert/cabaret experience within an educational environment. This gives students a chance to practice and pick up material, to learn how to produce concerts which is increasingly popular in the professional theatrical world, and to design in unconventional spaces. 172 Below, in the future, aims to work with up and coming professional artists to put on their work in concert format if possible, and give a voice to artists of all races, genders, sexualities, and upbringings of all sorts.

172 Below poses a great benefit to the Emerson community because in the professional world, concert and cabaret performances are becoming very popular and we don't currently have a space to practice that consistently here. For those involved in the production of the concerts, 172 Below is an excellent way to hone the skills of performing as yourself in front of an audience and to learn how to produce a concert. For those in the audiences, it provides entertainment and, hopefully in the future, exposure to new material and rising artists.

Comics of Color was established in 2022, when Breanna Nesbeth (‘22) identified a deep need for a show that specifically highlights performances by comedians of color. Prior to the creation of Comics of Color, historically underrepresented comics felt unheard and unseen in the predominantly white comedy scene at Emerson College. Comics of Color was created to both uplift historically underrepresented comedians as well as to attempt to mitigate the harm this institution has perpetrated against comics of color.

Now in its fourth year of semesterly sold out shows, Comics of Color centers a variety show with different perspectives, performances, and pizzazz. We’ve successfully fostered our own space that uplifts the intersection of comedy and racism through stand up, sketch, improv, clown, dance, and music.

Each semester, Comics of Color puts on a singular showcase including each artistic form mentioned above, with variations depending on the creative ability of the cast. Auditions are not typically held. Instead, Comics of Color remains a space for any self-identified person of color interested in comedy to showcase their talent.

COLLABORATIVE INTERACTION
A common feature of both DKA and entertainment industry companies is collaborative interaction. DKA is a gender-inclusive society, which is a significant distinction from typical collegiate organizations that go through recruitment. This gives members a more diverse network of people to interact with and engage with as a professional support system, both at the collegiate level and beyond.

PROFESSIONAL NETWORK
Professional development and networking are vital parts of the DKA experience. Students are members for life, which allows current students to network with graduated peers. Alumni may help students with transitioning to work after college. Professional fraternities also emphasize student learning opportunities and productivity. With DKA alumni networks in cities including Los Angeles and New York, students have access to many major entertainment industry hubs.

RESUME DEVELOPMENT
DKA also gives students significant opportunities to develop their experiences for resume and portfolio refinement. Guest speakers are commonly invited to present to members on career-related topics. Producer students might go out and deliver a practice pitch to alumni members already established in their fields, for instance. DKA Job and Internship Bulletin Boards also present another pathway to find internship opportunities to meet school requirements, explore career opportunities and gain industry experience.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
DKA is open to students of all majors. Therefore, a freshman unsure about their field of study or career path can opt for DKA and immediately immerse themselves in a professional and collaborative atmosphere instead of a more general social organization. In fact, networking with members in a particular field may help a student decide which specific career path is best for them.

K-POP is one of the most popular cultures in the world right now, and there are many fans all over the world. What makes K-POP famous in the performing arts field is teamwork, where everyone can find their own uniqueness. At present, most K-POP dance clubs in many schools are ignoring the potential of K-POP in Europe and the United States, and don't promote multicultural exchanges.

Our organization is open to all students and wants to break that barrier. We will cover different dances in groups according to interest and difficulty. We also hope to perform the shows on stage or complete a K-POP challenge throughout the community.

The Emerson College Cheerleading Squad was formed back in 2009 by Emerson alumnus Brittany Perro and Kayla Harrity. While the squad has gone through numerous changes over the years, one thing has always remained the same: the Passion. The members of the Cheer Squad, past and present have all shared a passion for sports, for performing and for community.

As a group, the Squad focuses on personal and communal development through involvement on campus. We cheer and perform at games for as many sports as we can; including but not limited to: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Lacrosse. We want to support all our athletes and we seek to bridge the gap between athletics and the rest of the Emerson Community and hope to foster community engagement from all students, both on and off campus.

As a partner with the Athletics Department we strive to represent the school and our sports teams with poise and sportsmanship. We wear our uniforms with pride and understand the magnitude of our position as morale boosters and spirit builders. As an SGA recognized organization we put our best foot forward to be an all-inclusive group that celebrates the diversity in our membership. We are a group that welcomes (and encourages) people of all genders, races, and orientations to join in on the fun and make an impact as leaders on Emerson's campus.

Frames Per Second, or FPS, is Emerson College's oldest film organization. We are dedicated to bringing you the most professional, hands-on, and fun learning experiences we can.

Want to make your story a reality? We produce and fully finance two student short films every year, the FPS Freshman and Spring Narratives. The Freshman Narrative is only open to first-year students, but Emerson students from any undergraduate class can work on the Spring Narrative. After the FPS Board and Advisor select the winning script for each project, usually also helping to pick a key crew, the key crew take the reins and get to make their project a reality! Filming takes place in the beginning of the Spring Semester, with an end-of-the-year screening for the whole school to attend. From pre to post production, we will help you with everything from accessing industry-standard equipment to distributing your film to film festivals.

FPS Distribution operates year-round, embodying a true commitment to the film festival circuit, which spans all seasons—not just a single window of opportunity. Our work begins each fall semester with an active campaign to encourage submissions from filmmakers with completed projects. The top ten films selected by the committee are showcased at the Mini Fest. After the event, the Head(s) of Distribution consult with Premiere Film to determine which of these films would proceed to formal distribution through their network. We choose three films total.

Want to learn from the best of the best? Attend our weekly workshops every semester! This semester we hosted two workshops a week for seven weeks. We invite industry professionals and high achieving students to cover every aspect of filmmaking, presenting both intro and advanced knowledge on the topics professors might not cover in production classes. Each workshop you go to counts towards a **non-tuition credit** (minimum 4 workshops).

We hope to see and work with you soon!

RareWorks Theatre Company is dedicated to seeking and amplifying the unheard– the production of rare and new works, fostering the emerging theatre artists and administrators, and the inclusion of underrepresented people in theatre. The purpose of RareWorks Theatre Company is to support theatrical productions directed, managed, and otherwise staged by the students of Emerson College. RareWorks exists to make rarely produced works available to the Emerson community. We hope to provide theatrical opportunities to students of all majors and classes, including experiences with musical productions, plays, experimental works, and student-written shows. In fact, we are the only student group on campus that has a New Works season, fully dedicated to giving opportunities for student playwrights to have their work read and given feedback, workshopped as readings, and/or even fully produced by us. Our entire spring season every year is exclusively student-written and newly-written productions.

We take immense pride in being an established theatrical organization on campus, regularly producing theatre that is easily accessible to the public. Anyone interested in getting involved with our company is welcome and encouraged to do so. We provide unique opportunities past simply acting in a play and focus as an organization on the art and act of producing, design, and production development. We create new opportunities such as workshopping new plays, interacting with established playwrights, exploring new storytelling methods, and trying out alternative theatrical roles. We have consistently put out incredibly passionate work. RareWorks is open to, and provides ample opportunities for, students of all grade levels, major programs, and interests to become involved in our work.

Looking toward the future, we envision a RareWorks that expands the scope of the kinds of theatrical endeavors we support, and we hope to do more in support of all art forms at Emerson College. It is of the greatest importance for us as a company to foster a culture – both artistically and professionally – of diversity and inclusion. In order to do this, RareWorks will continually revamp all its official language for cultural relevance and appropriacy, devoting attention and time to focus on diversity and inclusion in the company, making it a part of our mission to seek those whose voices are too often unheard, and to provide support to any group or students who also seek the same.We intend to create a platform for all voices of Emerson College allowing everyone from writers to directors to actors to tell their stories.

The Berkeley Beacon is Emerson College’s only independent, student-run newspaper. Founded in 1947, the paper publishes content online daily and in print on Thursdays throughout the academic year. The paper is a chronicle of life at Emerson — covering student government politics, on- and off-campus events, and administrative initiatives and policies.

The Beacon is consistently heralded as one of the top student news organizations in the country, with our focus on editorial excellence and newsroom innovation. Through daily publication of content online, a weekly print newspaper, a semesterly magazine, and other forms of multimedia distribution, The Beacon is the leading source for Emerson-centric news.

We reach more readers in print and online than any other media organization on campus. Our stories have been picked up by The Washington Post, CNN, The New York Times, ESPN, BBC, and other prominent titles. Our live blog for Emerson’s pro-Palestinian encampment during the Spring 2024 semester generated more than 10,000 page views and was the most cited story about the event on Google.

Working at The Beacon will give you access to a real-world journalism laboratory that will translate to the lessons and ideas exposed in the classroom. On any given day, hundreds or thousands of people could read a story published by a Beacon reporter. Given our position in the heart of Boston, our reporters, editors, photographers, and broader storytellers have a front-row seat to some of the region’s biggest events.

In our inclusive, collaborative newsroom environment you will learn to write, edit, and produce content for varying forms of media. You’ll have access to cutting-edge products and technologies designed for the newsroom of tomorrow. You will also be a part of a passionate team of dedicated individuals who will help you grow as a journalist.

Mission
Xi Gamma Nu is a sorority that was founded in 2016 by a group of women who had a dream of creating a safe and loving space for women and non-binary folk to thrive at Emerson College. We are a local, social sorority with an emphasis on philanthropy, alumni engagement, academic achievement, community, and leadership. We strive to make sure each Active Sister is supported throughout their endeavors during their undergrad years and beyond. Connections made at Gamma will last a lifetime and we can't wait to welcome you into our sorority!

Membership Benefits
We have many benefits of membership including leadership opportunities from Sunshine Spirit to Recruitment Chair to even President! As well as that, you'll gain the benefit of networking within the sorority and with other FSL orgs, volunteer hours, and a sorority looks great on a resume. Beyond that, we host many get-togethers and sisterhood development events, giving you the opportunity to connect with your sisters and develop meaningful connections that will span years.
