The purpose of 172 Below is to provide a space for Emerson students to get concert/cabaret experience within an educational environment. This gives students a chance to practice and pick up material, to learn how to produce concerts which is increasingly popular in the professional theatrical world, and to design in unconventional spaces. 172 Below, in the future, aims to work with up and coming professional artists to put on their work in concert format if possible, and give a voice to artists of all races, genders, sexualities, and upbringings of all sorts.

172 Below poses a great benefit to the Emerson community because in the professional world, concert and cabaret performances are becoming very popular and we don't currently have a space to practice that consistently here. For those involved in the production of the concerts, 172 Below is an excellent way to hone the skills of performing as yourself in front of an audience and to learn how to produce a concert. For those in the audiences, it provides entertainment and, hopefully in the future, exposure to new material and rising artists.

We are A Goose Troupe! Originally formed in 2015, we rebranded and became A Goose Troupe in 2020. We are a sketch comedy troupe which primarily focuses on filmed comedy sketches. We premiere sketches regularly via YouTube and TikTok, and have at least two big in-person premieres per semester. Our goal is to promote individuals with unique comedic voices, giving people an opportunity to try their hand in all areas of sketch production and improve their comedic abilities in a welcoming and judgement-free environment.

Named Organization of the Year for 2013-2014 and recognized in Spring 2009, the purpose of this organization is to provide performances for and foster greater musical appreciation among the Emerson community and to provide its members with an outlet for artistic expression and growth. This organization combines elements of both a cappella vocal music and scripted performance. Acappellics is the only competing a cappella group on campus, and regularly performs each spring semester at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA).

Amigos ("friends") Organización Latina is Emerson's cultural organization that is dedicated to bringing the Latino/e & Hispanic culture to campus. Amigos is a group that welcomes anyone who has an interest in the variety of cultures that Amigos stands for. Amigos is a home for all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and/or nationality. Above all, Amigos is not about the Spanish language, it is about the people.

Following the integration of RAIZ Latinoamericana Production, AMIGOS will now oversee artistic initiatives alongside its social and cultural programs.

Amigos brings a variety of speakers, performers, food, and activities that embody the many Latino/e & Hispanic nations and cultures. Amigos also networks and collaborates with other Boston-based Latin organizations as well as other student-run organizations.

Amigos was founded in 1991 and in 1992, we became a Student Government Association-affiliated organization, granting us funding, and making us one of the oldest cultural organizations at the college.

The Animation Society is a space for students interested in the art of animation to connect, learn, and discuss! We meet every Wednesday at 7PM to catch up on industry news, learn about influential animators, share projects, and talk about all things animation! There is no experience required to join. We also host screenings, program workshops, and Q&A sessions with industry professionals! Our goal is to bridge the gaps that currently exist between live-action students and animation students, as well as those between animation students and each other. While animation has long been part of Emerson’s film culture, the Animation Society strives to bring it to its forefront! Emerson's Asian Students in Alliance (ASIA) was founded to provide awareness of the vast cultures present within the Asian community. ASIA is home to any Emerson student who self-identifies as Asian (East, Southeast, South, West, Central, or any Asian identity not encompassed within those regions) and/or Pacific Islander.

ASIA is dedicated to being an active member in social events around the Emerson community. ASIA hosts weekly meetings for members to connect and meet, along with special occasion events like our bubble tea discussion series, Lunar New Year, and Asian Pacific Heritage Month every spring.

Can you imagine Kamala Harris having lunch with Ron DeSantis without any problems? We can. With the world filled with biased views, it’s hard to navigate who to believe and what to believe. Why can’t we believe in both? Nowadays, people are either scared to have a conversation or even attempt to listen to someone who has different opinions than them. At the end of the day, many people are not going to change their viewpoints. However, by promoting the fact that communication and rhetoric is something we all do on a day to day basis, we can at least try to understand where they are coming from. Whether or not you believe in Democratic, Moderate, or Republican views, we only focus on getting the dialogue. In a school like Emerson College, we plan to effectively utilize what this part of school was made for. Emerson Department of Communication Studies allows us to learn and grow our networking abilities while fully committing to our viewpoints. This is a unique opportunity to facilitate dialogue whether or not you know about politics. Not only will we be an organization to talk about current events, with our background within the Department, we want to help you with things to succeed. Not many other clubs offer you the rights to join a club to talk but also give you unique opportunities to travel, obtain internships, or even network within the Alumni program. CHUANG Stage was founded in 2018 as the first Mandarin Chinese theater community of Emerson College. Created and driven by passionate and talented individuals from China, we promote transcultural theater, CHUANG unites the Mandarin-speaking community of Emerson and students of greater Boston by producing and theater in Mandarin. CHUANG Lab is the second stage of CHUANG Stage, with Mandarin as its working language, CHUANG Lab builds pathways from community student theater to the professional industry. At this day and age when a theater degree is not the most economical choice, CHUANG Lab fills in the gap of accessible theater education and production opportunities, fostering brave, dedicated theater-making with its two-show season working around the semester’s schedule.

Comics of Color was established in 2022, when Breanna Nesbeth (‘22) identified a deep need for a show that specifically highlights performances by comedians of color. Prior to the creation of Comics of Color, historically underrepresented comics felt unheard and unseen in the predominantly white comedy scene at Emerson College. Comics of Color was created to both uplift historically underrepresented comedians as well as to attempt to mitigate the harm this institution has perpetrated against comics of color.

Now in its fourth year of semesterly sold out shows, Comics of Color centers a variety show with different perspectives, performances, and pizzazz. We’ve successfully fostered our own space that uplifts the intersection of comedy and racism through stand up, sketch, improv, clown, dance, and music.

Each semester, Comics of Color puts on a singular showcase including each artistic form mentioned above, with variations depending on the creative ability of the cast. Auditions are not typically held. Instead, Comics of Color remains a space for any self-identified person of color interested in comedy to showcase their talent.

The objective of this organization is to encourage students to be thought leaders in creativity and innovation. Students practice content creation and brand building while working with nonprofit organizations and other student organizations, and Emerson College departments. Teams create meaningful and tangible content such as podcasts, social media, video content, documentaries, informational and promotional pieces, and more. This organization acts as a bridge between the School of Communication and the School of the Arts.

Practice groups meet individually to work on projects and workshops. Active members are put on email lists to stay in the know about possible opportunities, projects, and workshops.

EKStone is an organization gathering all the students who like K-POP culture at Emerson.

K-POP is one of the most popular cultures in the world right now, and there are many fans all over the world. What makes K-POP famous in the performing arts field is teamwork, where everyone can find their own uniqueness. At present, most K-POP dance clubs in many schools are ignoring the potential of K-POP in Europe and the United States, and don't promote multicultural exchanges.

Our organization is open to all students and wants to break that barrier. We will cover different dances in groups according to interest and difficulty. We also hope to perform the shows on stage or complete a K-POP challenge throughout the community.

The Emerson College Cheerleading Squad was formed back in 2009 by Emerson alumnus Brittany Perro and Kayla Harrity. While the squad has gone through numerous changes over the years, one thing has always remained the same: the Passion. The members of the Cheer Squad, past and present have all shared a passion for sports, for performing and for community.

As a group, the Squad focuses on personal and communal development through involvement on campus. We cheer and perform at games for as many sports as we can; including but not limited to: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Lacrosse. We want to support all our athletes and we seek to bridge the gap between athletics and the rest of the Emerson Community and hope to foster community engagement from all students, both on and off campus.

As a partner with the Athletics Department we strive to represent the school and our sports teams with poise and sportsmanship. We wear our uniforms with pride and understand the magnitude of our position as morale boosters and spirit builders. The once fictional Harry Potter series sport, Quidditch, is no longer trapped in the pages of a book. Created in 2005 by Middlebury College, Quadball is now a nationally recognized sport with over 200 teams. As a community, we pride ourselves on being a gender-inclusive, full-contact sport that allows people of any athletic ability to participate. We compete against other colleges in the Boston area like Harvard, Tufts, and BU. We also compete at the Northeast Regional Championship in the fall and, if we place, a National Championship in the spring.

A mixed gender ultimate frisbee team open to all skill levels and ability. We play competitively against other teams in the Northeast in both the Fall and Springtime. The team is open to all genders who play together on the field at the same time. We travel out of Boston around five times a semester to compete in tournaments while staying in hotels and at team members houses. We are an inclusive environment built for anyone who wants to be a part of a team.

Emerson Game Development Club seeks to foster a strong game development community at Emerson and nearby schools by bringing aspiring game creators and game design enthusiasts together, hosting and informing students of game jams and other collaboration events, and giving them the resources they need to pursue their interest in games. You do NOT need to be a coding expert or pro gamer to join us! Everyone is welcome here!



Every Tuesday at 8pm we meet to discuss game design, learn game making tools, review news from the gaming industry, analyze game mechanics, and generally geek out about our favorite games. We hold workshops where students can make games solo or with others, ask questions about game dev tools, overcome troubles with development, and do fun game dev exercises! With a primary focus on debate, the team regularly competes in the Intercollegiate Public Debate Association (IPDA) and may feature eleven individual speech events spanning public address, interpretation, and limited-preparation categories. ECSD holds active membership in three national forensic organizations: Pi Kappa Delta (PKD), the National Forensic Association (NFA), and the International Forensic Association (IFA). Frames Per Second, or FPS, is Emerson College's oldest film organization. We are dedicated to bringing you the most professional, hands-on, and fun learning experiences we can.

Want to make your story a reality? We produce and fully finance two student short films every year, the FPS Freshman and Spring Narratives. The Freshman Narrative is only open to first-year students, but Emerson students from any undergraduate class can work on the Spring Narrative. After the FPS Board and Advisor select the winning script for each project, usually also helping to pick a key crew, the key crew take the reins and get to make their project a reality! Filming takes place in the beginning of the Spring Semester, with an end-of-the-year screening for the whole school to attend. From pre to post production, we will help you with everything from accessing industry-standard equipment to distributing your film to film festivals.

FPS Distribution operates year-round, embodying a true commitment to the film festival circuit, which spans all seasons—not just a single window of opportunity. Our work begins each fall semester with an active campaign to encourage submissions from filmmakers with completed projects. The top ten films selected by the committee are showcased at the Mini Fest. After the event, the Head(s) of Distribution consult with Premiere Film to determine which of these films would proceed to formal distribution through their network. We choose three films total.

Want to learn from the best of the best? Attend our weekly workshops every semester! This semester we hosted two workshops a week for seven weeks. We invite industry professionals and high achieving students to cover every aspect of filmmaking, presenting both intro and advanced knowledge on the topics professors might not cover in production classes. Each workshop you go to counts towards a **non-tuition credit** (minimum 4 workshops).

For over 55 years, the Musical Theatre Society of Emerson College (MTS) has been supporting the production of Musical Theatre on campus for the entertainment, education, and cultural enrichment of the Emerson Community. MTS produces anywhere between 4 and 7 productions annually, including the Emerson Fights AIDS (EFA) Gala and Cabaret, a benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS; Cabaret of Color, directed and performed by Emerson students who identify as BIPOC; and a diverse selection of mainstage musicals (Recent productions include Assassins; Hedwig and the Angry Inch; The Mad Ones; Sweeney Todd; Bare: a Pop Opera; and Sunday in the Park with George). In addition to performances, MTS hosts various other events throughout the semester, including professional masterclasses, community events, and the annual presentation of the Artist of Distinction award with Emerson Stage.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists was created in 1984 to create a national voice and unified vision for Latino journalists. (The organization was created during a time when the term "Hispanic" was widely used.)* The organization is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Latino/a/x people in the news industry.

The Emerson College chapter of NAHJ was founded in the fall of 2014 by student Angelika Romero under the guidance of Professor Cindy Rodríguez. It was officially recognized by the Emerson SGA in the spring 2015.

Its goal is to provide Emerson journalists with opportunities to network, sharpen their skills, enhance conversation and understanding of issues impacting the Latino community, and promote the hiring and retention of Latinx journalists at all levels of news reporting and management. We also work in solidarity with members of NABJ, AAJA, NAJA and NLGJA.

No one term can adequately describe us. Latina/o/x people come from 22 countries in the Western Hemisphere. Most of us have a mix of indigenous, African and Iberian (Spanish/Portuguese) heritage.

That ancestral mix was borne out of violence and an attempt to "whiten" the race. Spanish conquistadors raped indigenous women throughout Latin America and the Caribbean during colonization, just as they did with women of African descent in the U.S.

There are many other ethnic and cultural groups who can claim Latin American heritage because their ancestors arrived from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Waves of Jewish people also arrived, escaping the Spanish Inquisition and, later, Nazi Germany. (Nazi collaborators also escaped to countries like Argentina.) Some were fleeing poverty and persecution; others came from elite families.

For these reasons, many of us reject the term "Hispanic" as it erases this history and ancestry and seeks to identify us by our connection to savage colonizers.

RareWorks Theatre Company is dedicated to seeking and amplifying the unheard– the production of rare and new works, fostering the emerging theatre artists and administrators, and the inclusion of underrepresented people in theatre. The purpose of RareWorks Theatre Company is to support theatrical productions directed, managed, and otherwise staged by the students of Emerson College. RareWorks exists to make rarely produced works available to the Emerson community. We take immense pride in being an established theatrical organization on campus, regularly producing theatre that is easily accessible to the public. Saathi is a student-led South Asian cultural organization that aims to promote and celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of South Asia. We hope to have students from every corner of South Asia, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives.

The primary purpose of Saathi is to provide a space for students to connect with one another, share their experiences, and explore their cultural identities. The Student Government Association (SGA) was formed to establish an effective student government; represent student interests; establish and facilitate all student organizations; act as a liaison between the student body, the administration, and the Board of Trustees; and promote and protect the rights of the students. In coordination with the Office of the Vice President and Dean of Campus Life, the SGA allocates and monitors funds to student organizations and represents student voice on various boards and committees.

Every undergraduate student is welcome to attend SGA Student Assembly meetings. Applications for open-appointed positions are taken on a rolling basis. Elections are held in the Fall semester for open positions and in the Spring semester to fill positions for the next academic year. Any full-time enrolled undergraduate student who meets the candidate criteria is encouraged to run.

This semester we have newer lower time commitment positions called general members. As a general member, your focus will be on supporting senators and internal affairs officers through miscellaneous tasks, meeting the many staff and faculty that work closely with our organization, and learning more about the interworking of SGA itself.

Swomo is short for Swolen (spelled wrong on purpose) Monkey Showcase, but we go by Swomo. We are the third ever comedy troupe at Emerson which is a fact. Swomo is a long form improv and sketch comedy troupe that performs 3-4 times a semester. We love doing improv that people have (nicely) described as "adventure-prov" which focuses on crazy narratives and wild characters but we do all kinds of long-form show styles and are always throwing in fun bits and sketches that help make our shows unique and fun for audience and performers alike! On top of that, we perform one full sketch show a semester and we also perform at various local improv festivals such as the BU Liquid Fun Festival. We love you!

The Berkeley Beacon is Emerson College’s only independent, student-run newspaper. Founded in 1947, the paper publishes content online daily and in print on Thursdays throughout the academic year. The paper is a chronicle of life at Emerson — covering student government politics, on- and off-campus events, and administrative initiatives and policies.



The Beacon is consistently heralded as one of the top student news organizations in the country, with our focus on editorial excellence and newsroom innovation. Through daily publication of content online, a weekly print newspaper, a semesterly magazine, and other forms of multimedia distribution, The Beacon is the leading source for Emerson-centric news.



We reach more readers in print and online than any other media organization on campus. Our stories have been picked up by The Washington Post, CNN, The New York Times, ESPN, BBC, and other prominent titles. Our live blog for Emerson’s pro-Palestinian encampment during the Spring 2024 semester generated more than 10,000 page views and was the most cited story about the event on Google.

The nonprofit advocacy organization was founded in 1975 and is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Black people in the news industry and to work to improve news coverage of issues related to Black people.

The Emerson chapter's goals are to provide Emerson journalists with opportunities to network, sharpen their skills, enhance conversation and understanding of issues impacting Black communities, and promote the hiring and retention of Black journalists at all levels of news reporting and management. We also work in solidarity with members of NAHJ, AAJA, NAJA and NLGJA.

The EVVY Awards is like no other college production in the country. Modeled after professional shows such as the Emmys and the Oscars, the EVVY Awards has become the largest multi-camera, live switch event any school has to offer. This award winning show has become nationally recognized with a first place award at The National Association of College Broadcasters awards and has received two national Telly Awards.

Throughout the year, student work can submit their work to a wide variety of categories, creating a very competitive environment right here on campus. These submissions are then sent out to local and national professional judges in their respective field to ensure a fair and experience judging process.

The EVVY Awards is not only an award show, it is also a student run organization which provides an adequate learning experience for hundreds of Emerson Students. The Music Den is a space designed for Emerson students to share music and meet other students through music-based activities and events. We have two sections: Music Appreciation and Music Performance!

The Music Appreciation section provides opportunities to expand musical perspectives, learn more about each other, and unwind with different social nights, music games, listening parties, craft nights, and more with no stakes or deadlines!

The purpose of The Stranger Experiences is to create meaningful, original, and daring interactive art pieces. They will prioritize audience agency and immersion, taking inspiration from the works of real-life organizations such as MeowWolf, Punchdrunk, Ghost Story Games, and Arkane Studios. The stories the group will create will range from video games, immersive theater productions, escape rooms, board games, complex treasure hunts, and even murder mystery dinner parties. Any form of media which pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling mediums are also greatly encouraged. The Stranger Experiences makes it their goal to revolutionize experiential design, forging a variety of interactive media and its byproducts for audiences to engage with. These experiences, often experimental, aim to wake their participants from the mundane, and place them into alien worlds, ones equally enchanting as they are haunting. We firmly believe in putting our audiences first and ensuring that all of our content upholds our standards of quality, originality, and innovation. Only then can we generate projects which foster community, connection, and culture.

This Is Pathetic is Emerson's oldest long-form improv troupe! We perform 45-60 minute shows inspired by the Spokane, Harold, and Free-Form styles. Within long-form improv, we explore complex characters, settings, emotions, and plot through a comedic lens. And we don't take ourselves too seriously.

Recognized in Fall 2006, Undergraduate Students for Publishing's purpose is to educate Emerson undergraduates about publishing careers in a variety of ways. To get involved sign up for our email list!

The club hosts panels of professionals to speak about their specific jobs and advise students on how to start their own careers in publishing. In addition to this, the executive members host events to teach members publishing vocabulary, share their experiences, give them resources on the publishing world, and generally keep them aware of the current events of the business.

The club also houses an imprint, Wilde Press, which publishes two student-written manuscripts every semester and functions as closely to a real-world house in order to teach students how editorial, copyediting, design, marketing, and digital function through hands-on application. Everyone is invited to work on these projects regardless of prior experience.

In addition to Wilde Press, Pub Club also runs a genre-only fiction magazine called Generic Mag and a blog about all things books. These both serve as great ways for students to get involved in the publishing process beyond Wilde Press's book projects.
