The purpose of 172 Below is to provide a space for Emerson students to get concert/cabaret experience within an educational environment. This gives students a chance to practice and pick up material, to learn how to produce concerts which is increasingly popular in the professional theatrical world, and to design in unconventional spaces. 172 Below, in the future, aims to work with up and coming professional artists to put on their work in concert format if possible, and give a voice to artists of all races, genders, sexualities, and upbringings of all sorts.

172 Below poses a great benefit to the Emerson community because in the professional world, concert and cabaret performances are becoming very popular and we don't currently have a space to practice that consistently here. For those involved in the production of the concerts, 172 Below is an excellent way to hone the skills of performing as yourself in front of an audience and to learn how to produce a concert. For those in the audiences, it provides entertainment and, hopefully in the future, exposure to new material and rising artists.

We are A Goose Troupe! Originally formed in 2015, we rebranded and became A Goose Troupe in 2020. We are a sketch comedy troupe which primarily focuses on filmed comedy sketches. We premiere sketches regularly via YouTube and TikTok, and have at least two big in-person premieres per semester. Our goal is to promote individuals with unique comedic voices, giving people an opportunity to try their hand in all areas of sketch production and improve their comedic abilities in a welcoming and judgement-free environment.

Named Organization of the Year for 2013-2014 and recognized in Spring 2009, the purpose of this organization is to provide performances for and foster greater musical appreciation among the Emerson community and to provide its members with an outlet for artistic expression and growth. This organization combines elements of both a cappella vocal music and scripted performance. Acappellics is the only competing a cappella group on campus, and regularly performs each spring semester at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA).

Amigos ("friends") Organización Latina is Emerson's cultural organization that is dedicated to bringing the Latino/e & Hispanic culture to campus. Amigos is a group that welcomes anyone who has an interest in the variety of cultures that Amigos stands for. Amigos is a home for all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and/or nationality. Above all, Amigos is not about the Spanish language, it is about the people.

Following the integration of RAIZ Latinoamericana Production, AMIGOS will now oversee artistic initiatives alongside its social and cultural programs.

Amigos brings a variety of speakers, performers, food, and activities that embody the many Latino/e & Hispanic nations and cultures. Amigos also networks and collaborates with other Boston-based Latin organizations as well as other student-run organizations.

Amigos was founded in 1991 and in 1992, we became a Student Government Association-affiliated organization, granting us funding, and making us one of the oldest cultural organizations at the college.

The Animation Society is a space for students interested in the art of animation to connect, learn, and discuss! We meet every Wednesday at 7PM to catch up on industry news, learn about influential animators, share projects, and talk about all things animation! There is no experience required to join. We also host screenings, program workshops, and Q&A sessions with industry professionals! Our goal is to bridge the gaps that currently exist between live-action students and animation students, as well as those between animation students and each other. While animation has long been part of Emerson’s film culture, the Animation Society strives to bring it to its forefront! AAJA Emerson’s mission is to act as a space to share Asian-American culture in the journalism, media, and communications fields, to create opportunities to network, explore career interests, and find community. Emerson's Asian Students in Alliance (ASIA) was founded to provide awareness of the vast cultures present within the Asian community. ASIA is home to any Emerson student who self-identifies as Asian (East, Southeast, South, West, Central, or any Asian identity not encompassed within those regions) and/or Pacific Islander.

ASIA is dedicated to being an active member in social events around the Emerson community. ASIA hosts weekly meetings for members to connect and meet, along with special occasion events like our bubble tea discussion series, Lunar New Year, and Asian Pacific Heritage Month every spring.

ASL Emerson is a student organization devoted to the understanding and awareness of Deaf culture in its entirety, which includes the study and practice of American Sign Language and related skills. Members create opportunities to welcome and include the Emerson College community in events and workshops run by the organization to gain a greater awareness of Deaf history and culture outside of a classroom setting. Can you imagine Kamala Harris having lunch with Ron DeSantis without any problems? We can. With the world filled with biased views, it’s hard to navigate who to believe and what to believe. Why can’t we believe in both? Nowadays, people are either scared to have a conversation or even attempt to listen to someone who has different opinions than them. At the end of the day, many people are not going to change their viewpoints. However, by promoting the fact that communication and rhetoric is something we all do on a day to day basis, we can at least try to understand where they are coming from. Whether or not you believe in Democratic, Moderate, or Republican views, we only focus on getting the dialogue. In a school like Emerson College, we plan to effectively utilize what this part of school was made for. Emerson Department of Communication Studies allows us to learn and grow our networking abilities while fully committing to our viewpoints. This is a unique opportunity to facilitate dialogue whether or not you know about politics. Not only will we be an organization to talk about current events, with our background within the Department, we want to help you with things to succeed. Not many other clubs offer you the rights to join a club to talk but also give you unique opportunities to travel, obtain internships, or even network within the Alumni program. We open our arms to anyone willing to start talking and respectfully listening to other people. At the end of the day, it takes two people to start a conversation. Why don’t we have it together?

BlueJay Theatre Collective makes strides toward acceptance and togetherness by uniting a multitude of people all with a shared common goal: to make theater. Theater makers have been stretching the creative boundaries for centuries. We at BlueJay want to celebrate this expansion by uplifting stories of the modern day. And in doing so, we will provide opportunities for performers to feel personally connected to the characters they portray. We aim to reflect on and depict these honest stories in the hopes that they will impact the audience beyond the world of theater. CHUANG Stage was founded in 2018 as the first Mandarin Chinese theater community of Emerson College. Created and driven by passionate and talented individuals from China, we promote transcultural theater, CHUANG unites the Mandarin-speaking community of Emerson and students of greater Boston by producing and theater in Mandarin. CHUANG Lab is the second stage of CHUANG Stage, with Mandarin as its working language, CHUANG Lab builds pathways from community student theater to the professional industry. At this day and age when a theater degree is not the most economical choice, CHUANG Lab fills in the gap of accessible theater education and production opportunities, fostering brave, dedicated theater-making with its two-show season working around the semester’s schedule.

Comics of Color was established in 2022, when Breanna Nesbeth (‘22) identified a deep need for a show that specifically highlights performances by comedians of color. Prior to the creation of Comics of Color, historically underrepresented comics felt unheard and unseen in the predominantly white comedy scene at Emerson College. Comics of Color was created to both uplift historically underrepresented comedians as well as to attempt to mitigate the harm this institution has perpetrated against comics of color.

Now in its fourth year of semesterly sold out shows, Comics of Color centers a variety show with different perspectives, performances, and pizzazz. We’ve successfully fostered our own space that uplifts the intersection of comedy and racism through stand up, sketch, improv, clown, dance, and music.

Each semester, Comics of Color puts on a singular showcase including each artistic form mentioned above, with variations depending on the creative ability of the cast. Auditions are not typically held. Instead, Comics of Color remains a space for any self-identified person of color interested in comedy to showcase their talent.

The objective of this organization is to encourage students to be thought leaders in creativity and innovation. Students practice content creation and brand building while working with nonprofit organizations and other student organizations, and Emerson College departments. Teams create meaningful and tangible content such as podcasts, social media, video content, documentaries, informational and promotional pieces, and more. This organization acts as a bridge between the School of Communication and the School of the Arts.

Practice groups meet individually to work on projects and workshops. Active members are put on email lists to stay in the know about possible opportunities, projects, and workshops.
